NSBE Family & Friends,

It is an honor to serve as the 2021-2023 NSBE Houston Professionals Chapter
President to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact Houston’s communities!

I am excited to build upon the great legacy of President Emeritus LeChell Honorat and lead an outstanding executive board of engineers in the Greater Houston Area. We are looking forward to providing opportunities to reunite in person this year with other professionals through sponsored networking events. Plus, we will be providing professional development opportunities through NSBE’s Special Interest Groups (SIG).

I also have the privilege of serving as the Advisory Board Chair for NSBE’s Healthcare Innovations SIG, whose mission is to promote the development and implementation of innovations that will improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injury, illness, and disease. As we overcome the Covid-19 Pandemic, it will be critical for our engineers to address the health disparities within our communities. Hence, our goal will be to expand healthcare sponsorship for our organization and enhance medical resources for black communities.

I am additionally leveraging my role as the National GEM Consortium Alumni Board Vice President and a Rice University Professor in the Practice to address issues of diversity and inclusion in higher education by enhancing our collegiate and pre-collegiate student outreach to increase our pipeline of technical leaders. Our board also has numerous members with various entrepreneurial ventures, so supporting Black businesses will be another core objective of our chapter this year. In turn, we have wonderful opportunities to grow our professional chapter and increase our impact on the Greater Houston Area.

We look forward to you joining us in partnership this year to collectively achieve our organization’s mission and our chapter’s objectives!

Dr JL (Joshua) Gray

2021-2023 President
