NSBE Houston Pros
Collegiate Initiative’s Mission
The mission of the College Initiative (CI) program is to enhance the various skill sets of NSBE collegiate members by aiding the students about to enter the professional workforce. This is achieved by developing and maintaining programs and activities for collegiate students, encouraging the transition of NSBE collegiate members to NSBE Houston Professionals members and identifying local NSBE collegiate chapters for support and/or collaboration.
CI is also responsible for coordinating the publicity of the Houston Professionals events to colleges and collegiate chapters and ensuring the attendance of NSBE collegiate chapter meetings by NSBE Houston Professionals members when invited.

A Walk for Education (AWFE)
Every fall, volunteers walk door-to-door in a predominantly Black community distributing information about area college admissions, area vocational schools, GED, SAT/ACT, and financial aid. Also our Houston Area partner schools Texas Southern University, University of Houston, Prairie View A&M University and Rice University setup engineer booths for all of the children in the community. Each year we have over a hundred volunteers excited to walk the neighborhood and introduce science, technology and math careers to children.

Looking for Mentors for our Collegiate Members
For the 2019-2020 year we are looking to host a mentorship program for our collegiate students. This is a great opportunity to step up and actively work to fulfill NSBE’s mission to “increase the number.” This program will include students from all our local universities in the Houston area; Rice, Texas A&M, Prairie View, Texas Southern, the University of Houston, and the University of Texas – Tyler (Houston campus).
The expectation is that you should be able to dedicate at least two hours a month to your mentee and two face to face meetings per year. You can help your mentee by reviewing their resumes and cover letters, providing them with interview tips and expanding their network, just to name a few. If you are interested in serving as a mentor for the upcoming year please contact Carmel Tebyanian & Folake Jeyifous at ci@nsbehouston.org
